During the last decade there has been an influx of Shia families making Adelaide their new home. Parents recognised that alongside their child’s schooling, there was an immediate need for a religious education and concerns about identity and faith for the next generation.
In response to this, LOG was initiated in 2016 with fortnightly sessions conducted at Hillcrest Community Centre. The focus was to teach children in a friendly atmosphere with a formal classroom setting.
In 2020 LOG moved its teaching to Imam Ali Mosque. The major advantage of this included delivering a curriculum in an Islamic environment including access to prayer halls for Namaz (Salah) and lessons.
During this short period of time the LOG team attracted a number of highly skilled volunteers with a wide range of professional expertise in fields such as medicine, finance, engineering, IT and teaching. Many have acquired knowledge and skills from teaching in Islamic teaching from centres across the Pakistan, United Kingdom, Canada and Middle East.
LOG uses curriculum materials and resources developed from UK which cover the key areas of Fiqh, Aqaid, Akhlaq, Tareekh and Qur’an.
