Future Plans & Challenges

Future Plans

The development of LOG from its inception to the present day illustrates the importance of team work and a willingness to provide the very best service to the children in our community.
We recognise the importance of continuous improvement and self-reflection. We aim to invest in the professional development and training of our staff by using the latest teaching methodologies with ongoing professional support.
Involving parents in madrassa and supporting them with their child’s progress is crucial for successful outcomes. We will seek to engage parents in face to face meetings and, as far as possible, involve them in the learning journey of their child. Arranging Parent workshops, we aim to provide opportunities for parents to develop their skills.
Developing a robust student welfare platform will help to assist them in managing relationships, communication abilities and providing support when faced with difficulty outside of Madrassa.

Challenges

Living in a secular society has its benefits and drawbacks. We value and embrace the freedoms and opportunities that we are blessed with in Australia however, the students and teaching staff are faced with issues which include:

  1. Compartmentalisation of religion – religion has becoming a more personal and private affair. This can cause confusion which manifests in inappropriate behaviours or anxiety. We continue to work hard on educating, guiding and supporting students and developing a sense of connection to community.
  2. We note that many 2 parent working families struggle to find time for religion and may themselves have limited knowledge. A madrassa can go some way towards meeting this need but we encourage parents to work alongside madrassa to ensure positive outcomes.
  3. Diversity is good however, children need to know their identity, culture and religion and be confident part of society. Teachers and volunteers demonstrate the importance of understanding their identity.
  4. The recruitment and retention of good quality teachers and volunteers poses a major challenge. The significant time and effort required to prepare and deliver an effective curriculum is difficult and recruitment timescales for new staff can be quite long. We encourage those members of society to come forward to offer their support.
