Brief info
Dr. Fatima Syed is a general practitioner (GP) with expertise in mental health. As a graduate of Dow Medical College Karachi, she spent time in Pakistan, Canada and the Middle East. The wide range of experience broadened her horizons and sparked her interest in different cultures and religious beliefs. Dr. Fatima moved to Australia in 2012 with her family and settled in Adelaide.
From a young age, Dr. Fatima was introduced to public speaking and became a Zakira e Ahle bait (AS). She was inspired by father who was a renowned Professor and scholar with more than 35 books to his name that have been translated in several languages. Dr. Fatima continues to serve the community by delivering lectures and reciting majalis.
During her time as a psychological Subject Matter Expert (SME) with American forces, Dr. Fatima was in charge of the two detainee camps. She provided psychological counselling to Iraqi detainees and prisoners of war (POW) including children and helped reintegrate them into society. This work helped her appreciate the importance of compassion and empathy. In 2019, Dr. Fatima returned to Iraq in her capacity as a medical doctor to serve the Zawwar of Imam Hussein (AS) at the Haram of Hazrat Abbas (AS).
Alongside other community members, Dr. Fatima started the Light of Guidance (LOG) Madrassa in 2016 to serve the Imam of our time (AJTF). Dr. Fatima has a passion for continuing her learning and is currently attending e-Hawza to develop her Islamic knowledge and improve her effectiveness as an educator of the next generation.
